The incident occurred on the evening of 21 February. A passenger car driver hit two women who were crossing at a pedestrian crossing. Most outrageously, after the incident the driver stopped, but quickly drove away without providing the victims with any assistance. The injured parties were a 77-year-old resident of Zgorzelec and her disabled 52-year-old daughter.

The perpetrator, wanting to avoid responsibility, fled the scene. However, a resident of Pieńsk was driving right behind him and effectively prevented him from doing so. He immediately informed Zgorzelec police officers about the incident and apprehended the driver who had hit the women. At the scene, police established the 28-year-old perpetrator’s identity and arrested him. He was taken into police custody.

Let us remind you that causing a road accident is punishable by up to 3 years in prison. It is also worth emphasising that fleeing the scene of a road accident is one of the circumstances resulting in more severe criminal liability, with a prison sentence of up to 12 years.
