Drawings by Jan Bancewicz are on display at Galeria Format. This is already the fourth exhibition of the artist’s works at the Bolesławiec library’s gallery. This time, the exhibition focuses on drawing—four thematic series: “The Decline of Rural Wooden Architecture,” “Kalisz and Its Surroundings,” “By the Baltic Sea,” and “Bolesławiec.” The exhibition is open during the library’s opening hours and will run until 23 March.
Jan Bancewicz was born in 1933 in Saint-Denis, France. In 1955, he graduated from the five-year School of Fine Arts in Wrocław. He worked as a graphic artist at industrial plants in Jelenia Góra and later became an art instructor at cultural centres. The artist takes part in competitions, achieving leading positions and receiving distinctions. He exhibits his works at group and solo exhibitions, as well as at reviews of amateur art. He has held more than thirty exhibitions. His works can be found in private collections in Poland and abroad—in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Austria, Italy, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland.
Since 1998, the artist’s works have also been on display at the “Izba Rękodzieła” in Przejęsław, which he organized together with his wife (Mrs Teresa is also an artist). The Bancewicz couple present their extensive artistic output at this, the only private gallery in the Osiecznica municipality. It includes painting, sculpture, graphic art and decorative textiles, while an additional attraction is a museum-style collection of antiques.
