An exhibition can be viewed in the building of the City History Department of Bolesławiec’s Museum of Ceramics at 14 Kutuzowa Street. It features photographs showing our city through the eyes of its residents. The exhibition includes both photographs of the contemporary city and images from past years.

In addition to works by the winners and participants of a photography competition organized by the Bolesławiec Photographic Society together with the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec, visitors can see a large collection of photographs by Jan Stępkowski and other photographers documenting the life of our city and its residents from the 1960s onward.

Both the competition and the exhibition aim to draw attention to the changes that have taken place in Bolesławiec over the past several decades, portray a fragment of the recent history of our city, and prompt reflection on the transience of people and their works. The selected photographs are also a unique documentary record, already serving to reconstruct the past and recall the appearance of things that no longer exist.

One of the exhibition organizers’ aims is to make city residents aware that photographs from years ago, even ordinary family photographs kept in home albums, may have considerable historical value and constitute valuable source material for research by specialists in history, art history, architecture, historic preservation, and restoration. The Museum of Ceramics, which organized the exhibition together with BTF, is using this opportunity to appeal to owners of such old photographs to contact museum staff.

Historical photographs may prove very helpful in researching the past of our city, while their owners themselves may also learn many interesting things about the places closest to them. The exhibition, held under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Bolesławiec, will be open until mid-March. It can be viewed at the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec at 14 Kutuzowa Street, Wednesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
