Legnicki Teatr Avatar, together with Aneta Zwierzyńska as director, have been invited to stage another major event opening the celebrations of the 2016 European Capital of Culture in Wrocław. This time, as part of the artistic challenge, one of the most attractive Wrocław meeting places—Słodowa Island—will burst into flames.
“Burning Island”, on 15 and 16 January, will usher the city’s guests into Wrocław’s European Capital of Culture year, filled with events from the world of art,” says Olga Pirecka from Avatar. “We have invited renowned and highly regarded fire-dancer and circus-soloist groups from Poland to take part in the show. They will include Kamil Balmas “Cyrik”, Sebastian Frodyma, Azis Light Group (Dąbrowa Górnicza), Flagrantis (Gdynia), as well as acrobats and breakdancers: the Space Duo acrobatic group (Złotoryja) and the Bessali group (Legnica).
During the ceremony, viewers will be accompanied by figures from the “Anonymous Pedestrians” monument and Wrocław’s famous dwarfs, which will come to life for the duration of the show. The performance will be based on the presentation of two parallel worlds characteristic of Wrocław’s architecture.
“A feast for the senses is in store,” adds Olga Pirecka. “Plenty of fire, pyrotechnics and human dexterity in a theatrical setting.”
