As st. insp. Jacek Śmigielski of the Legnica Municipal Guard reports, on Sunday, December 20, at around 5 a.m., a surveillance operator noticed a group of five young people drinking alcohol in the Market Square. At one point, two men from the group entered the train and, after tearing through the protective film, crawled into the locomotive’s boiler. After this thoughtless stunt, the group dispersed.

The patrol soon detained a woman and a man. The man denied damaging the illumination. He was fined for drinking alcohol in a public place. The incident involving the train was recorded by surveillance cameras. Based on the footage, the perpetrators may potentially be charged with property damage.

Let us recall that this is not the first attack by vandals on Legnica’s beautiful Christmas illuminations. Destroying property carries very severe penalties—up to five years in prison. We also remind you that after the first incident, the city center is being especially guarded at night as well.
