For parents to effectively fulfill their role and protect children from various dangers, they must be equipped with the necessary knowledge. That is why police officers from the Social Prevention Team were invited by the District Social Assistance Centre to meet with parents and legal guardians and raise their awareness of the dangers posed by designer drugs and cyberbullying.

Everyone interested could expand their knowledge of how to act when a child comes into contact with prohibited substances, as the meeting covered the symptoms of designer-drug poisoning, the sources of the problems and ways to counter the threat. They also discussed the phenomenon of cyberbullying, which frequently occurs among young people. A multimedia presentation demonstrated the particular danger of this phenomenon: the speed at which material targeting the victim spreads and its widespread availability online.

Participants learned where their charges can seek help if they become victims of cyberbullying and heard answers to their pressing questions concerning criminal liability. The parents showed great interest.

“The conclusions drawn from the meeting confirm that preventive measures should not be limited to students alone,” say the police officers from Lubin. “In many situations, proper supervision by a guardian makes it possible to respond to a threat more quickly.”
