The incident occurred on the night of 12–13 December this year in the city centre. A 50-year-old resident of Legnica who was returning home was attacked and robbed by a young man. The attacker followed the victim and, when he entered the stairwell, punched him in the head, then knocked him down and searched the pockets of his jacket, taking his mobile phone. The perpetrator was frightened away by another resident who, leaving his apartment, noticed the attacker and began chasing him.
A police patrol stopped the fleeing man thanks to cooperation with municipal guard officers. The aggressor turned out to be a 21-year-old resident of Legnica who had left prison just four days earlier. The detainee was placed in police custody.
The man had previously been detained as the perpetrator of offences against property and against life and health, including as a minor.
The 21-year-old now faces up to 12 years in prison.
