Shortly after the lights were switched on, Municipal Police surveillance cameras recorded a group of young people climbing onto the delicate structure of the fairy-tale train, jumping on it and playing football with an ornament torn from the Christmas tree…

In recent days, the lion that reads fairy tales and sings Christmas songs was also damaged. The vandals tried to tear out its keys, but fortunately they were scared away. Such people cannot feel that they are above the law. All incidents are recorded, and the cases are referred to the police.

The Municipal Police Commander Mirosław Giedrojć informed the authorities of Legnica that on successive weekends, on Fridays and Saturdays, an additional intervention patrol made up of Municipal Police and police officers would operate in the city centre throughout the night.

On 9 December, municipal police officers handed footage from the city surveillance system over to City Hall. What we see is unbelievable. The video was published on the Miasto Legnica Facebook profile:

Our Christmas train is currently the most popular light display among the residents of Legnica. It is all the more upsetting that it is becoming the target of acts of vandalism (and it is not the only one; an attempt was also made to destroy the lion). To illustrate the problem, we are publishing surveillance footage that we received from the Municipal Police commander this morning. The recording shows one such incident. The police are handling the case. On successive weekends, on Fridays and Saturdays, an additional intervention patrol made up of Municipal Police and police officers will operate in the city centre throughout the night. Please, let us take care of our light displays, which bring so much joy to all of us :)
