An illegal production line had been set up in a rented house. A total of nearly 2.5 tonnes of tobacco products were secured in five rooms on the first floor and in the attic. It was estimated that if they had reached the market, the State Treasury would have lost nearly PLN 1.75 million.
The suspects—two men aged 28 and 38, one of them a foreign national, both residents of Legnica—tried to hide in the building’s attic after officers entered the property.
Specialist machinery and nearly 2.5 tonnes of tobacco were secured. Some of the tobacco was in the form of bundles of dried leaves, while some had already been cut and was being dried on tarpaulins placed on specially prepared heating mats.
The officers notified customs service officials, who secured the illegal goods.
The residents of Legnica face up to 4.5 years in prison and a substantial fine.
