Valuable equipment left for the winter without daily supervision becomes easy and valuable prey for them. Therefore, Lubin police remind residents of several important rules to follow in order to avoid theft and break-ins at allotment huts.
Unfortunately, police statistics show that thefts occur very frequently in allotment gardens during this period. What do thieves steal most often? Everything that has any value to them: from tools, lawnmowers and other power tools, to kettles and even doors.
“To minimise the risk of suffering losses, above all we must remember to lock the padlocks and locks on allotment huts, tool rooms and hut windows. It is also possible to invest in better locks, padlocks and more solid doors,” say Lubin officers.
The officers appeal to allotment holders to act prudently, not tempt fate and not make the thieves’ “work” easier. Moreover, if it is possible to take valuable power tools to another, safer place for the winter, where they will be checked on more frequently, this should be done.
They add: “We appeal to all allotment holders and people walking in allotment gardens to pay attention to strangers loitering near the huts. If they see anything suspicious, they should notify the police.”
