For years, the initiator of this event has been Yanina Yagovenko, a pianist and longtime piano teacher at Zgorzelec’s music school.
The Musical and Poetic Evening entitled “We Remember” attracted a large audience to the school auditorium, where people listened attentively both to atmospheric music and beautiful poetry. Older residents of Zgorzelec wanted to spend time by candlelight and in a nostalgic atmosphere, but younger members of the audience were also present. It is heartening that the music school’s concert hall is increasingly struggling to accommodate Zgorzelec’s music lovers.
The concert began in fine style with violinist Anna Suszek and Jerzy Owczarz accompanying her on piano. They performed Vocalise by Sergei Prokofiev. Rafał Barcela’s guitar sounded nostalgic as he presented Melody from Carlo Domeniconi’s Suite. The soft and delicate sound of the saxophone played by Jadwiga Leśniak, a teacher at the music school, delighted the audience. The Nocturne by Jean Sibelius, masterfully performed by violinist Anna Krupa and pianist Yanina Yagovenko, moved many music lovers. Percussionists also appeared in this reflective concert: Krzysztof Palmowski on vibraphone and his students, Ziemowit Kłos on marimba and Mateusz Duda on bongos.
The Musical and Poetic Evening could not have gone without Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturne, performed romantically by Jerzy Owczarz. Against the backdrop of atmospheric music, Natalia Dubrowska and Wojciech Iwiński recited poetry. The young violinist Filip Olszanowski also performed with his teacher, Anna Krupa. Jadwiga Leśniak once again inspired admiration—this time not with the sound of her saxophone, but with her voice! She sang the song entitled Conjugation: I Will Pass, You Will Pass, He Will Pass...
Amid such a varied yet atmospheric program, the musicians did not forget the old, polyphonic and dependable Bach. We heard the Prelude in B-flat minor performed by pianist Dominik Lewicki, as well as the Largo from the Violin Sonata performed by Aleksandra Wojnarowicz. The accordion also sounded in its full range in the hands of Joanna Lewicka, who presented Vittorio Melocchi’s piece Pagina Intima. Pianist Przemysław Bereziuk drew applause from the audience with his extraordinarily moving performance of Wojciech Kilar’s Shades of Shadow. Finally, the teachers’ trio, consisting entirely of women, enchanted and moved the audience: Anna Krupa on violin, Halina Konopczyńska on viola and Yanina Yagovenko on piano. The women performed Arno Babajanian’s Nocturne and moved many people…
The Musical and Poetic Evening performed by teachers and students of Zgorzelec’s music school brought many emotions, but also joy and comfort. There were tears, but also small joys inspired by music. Once again, we were able to meet within the walls of the Feliks Nowowiejski State Music School of First and Second Degree and, through music and art, express our respect and remembrance for those who have passed away…
