On Sunday (22 November), at around 5:00 a.m., a fire broke out in a residential building in Kliczków. A total of a dozen or so fire service units fought the blaze (PSP, OSP and one military fire service unit). The building, which had been remodelled numerous times, was inhabited by four families. When the fire service arrived, flames had already engulfed the entire roof.
The firefighters began the firefighting operation and then used local hydrants. The operation was hampered by contaminants flowing with the water from the hydrants. Gravel, stones and plant debris clogged the screens in the fire pumps, causing temporary interruptions in the water supply and making it necessary to clean the screens.
The operation lasted approximately 12 hours. After extinguishing the fire, the firefighters had to break through rubble and roof tiles to reach the wooden beams. Only then could they make sure that the fire had been extinguished everywhere. The probable cause of the fire was a leak in the chimney flues. However, the cause will ultimately be determined by an expert appointed by the police.
Unfortunately, the building will probably not be fit for habitation. Four families have lost their homes. The Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Osiecznica is helping the affected families. The fire victims will receive financial assistance for essential needs. One of the families has been allocated social housing. The others are staying with relatives. Further decisions concerning assistance for those affected by the fire will also be made at the Municipal Social Welfare Centre shortly.
