Here are the details. As usual, let’s start with our PozaNova cinema. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, reels featuring films for schools will be shown during morning screenings as part of the New Horizons of Film Education project. In the afternoons, we invite you to “Agnieszka”. It is the story of a girl named Agnieszka who goes to prison instead of her boyfriend. When she is released, she leaves her hometown. She boards the first bus she can find, which takes her to Munich, where she tries to build a new life working as a dominatrix at the luxurious “Madame” escort agency. The film premiered on 30 October this year and, you know what? It is truly worth seeing. The leading role is played by Agnieszka Gorczyca, known, among other things, from the series “Czas honoru”. Tickets are available through Wednesday inclusive for just PLN 11. All that remains is to get on board, close the doors and turn off the lights...
On Tuesday, in addition to the cinema screenings, interesting discussions—hopefully—will take place under the green dome as part of the Polish-German TANDEM discussion club. On Tuesday, the young actors of Dorota Baranowska’s Fairy-Tale Theatre will also gather on stage to rehearse once again the performance “Pudło”. They are rehearsing intensively again because “Pudło” will be presented to a wider audience on 15 November as part of the Zgorzelec Theatre Meetings.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we will once again welcome attendees of the Cross-Border University of the Third Age. On Wednesday at 11 a.m., they will meet Zofia Barczyk, director of WS-SP ZOZ in Zgorzelec and chair of the Zgorzelec City Council. The meeting will be held as part of the “You Don’t Know Them Like This” series. On Friday, meanwhile, workshops are planned for the senior students, led by Dominik Trutkowski from the Western Institute in Poznań. Their topic is “How an Exhibition Is Created”.
On Wednesday, we must also mention an important ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. It will be another part of an academy during which the best students from Zgorzelec schools will receive scholarships—from the mayor, Rafał Gronicz—for academic, sporting and artistic achievements. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients and their parents.
Thursday will be especially interesting thanks to a lecture by Markus Lammert, a historian and research associate of the European Parliament in Brussels. Drawing on his own source research, the scholar describes the post-war situation in Görlitz, which was divided by new borders after the war ended. People living on the eastern bank of the Neisse were expelled, while tens of thousands of refugees and displaced people gathered in the western part and had to be cared for and provided with housing. Markus Lammert will give a lecture entitled “The City of the Expelled. Görlitz 1945–1953”. It will be interesting to see whether he remembers and mentions why the expulsions took place and who started the Second World War... Starts at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
After a quiet, cinema-focused Friday, we strongly encourage everyone to join us on Saturday. Theatre workshops will be held here from 10 a.m., and at 4 p.m. we will inaugurate an exhibition devoted to the Zgorzelec Land Theatre with a ceremonial opening. We will also attempt to reactivate the ensemble, so if you feel the call of the stage, come along. But we invite you even if you do not, because that same afternoon, as part of the Zgorzelec Theatre Meetings, there will be a meeting with Dr Piotr Rudzki, a native of Zgorzelec and a distinguished theatre scholar from the Department of Culture Theory and Performing Arts at the University of Wrocław, who will give a lecture entitled “Why Do We Need Theatre (Public Theatre) Today?”. It will be accompanied by a screening of Tadeusz Różewicz’s play “Złowiony – Rekonstrukcje”, directed by Jerzy Grzegorzewski and recorded on 25 February 1994 at the burned-out Polish Theatre in Wrocław. Admission is free.
And finally, Sunday. On Sunday, we also invite you to the theatre. Under the MDK dome, Aldona Jankowska will perform “Lataj z Krystyną”, directed by Andrzej Sadowski. The advertised play is a tragicomedy about what an apparently trivial idea, taken absolutely seriously, can lead to. How is it that ordinary, good people living “here and now”, unable to bear reality, can resort to radical solutions in order to change it? Aldona Jankowska seeks the answer to this question while telling an extraordinarily funny story and, as usual, keeping a strong ace up her sleeve. The performance begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost PLN 35. Come along!
