Led by Bogdan Mienculewicz, the team overcame a higher-ranked opponent from Kowary after a very fierce and evenly matched battle. TOP’s game featured effective serving, confident setting and solid attacking, which repeatedly found the hosts’ court. The Bolesławiec team were somewhat slow to start in the first set, with the strong support of the home fans playing a significant role in that part of the match.
The second set showed a different TOP. After a brief, man-to-man talk between the coach and the players, the fans saw a different team. Although the set was lost, the 30–28 score allowed them to look ahead to the next part of the match with optimism. The third set brought tough, determined play from the very first ball, point for point. Playing fast and accurate balls, the Bolesławiec team managed to break through the opponents’ block in the closing stages and won the set.
TOP entered the fourth set confidently, with the battle swinging back and forth. Team captain Piotr Kozłowski and Dariusz Pierzchalski scored effectively, while libero Sławomir Potocki was faultless in the back court. TOP won the set, making it 2–2, and once again in the league the players had to start over, this time in a tiebreak.
In the fifth set, with Kowary leading 6–4, coach Mienculewicz made a significant change. He gave Krzysiek Mosiądz a rest, bringing in Mateusz Świerzewski in the middle of the block, a promising player from Bolesławiec’s volleyball scene. The young player read the Kowary setter’s intentions perfectly and blocked the visitors’ middle attacker twice. The two bold blocks shook our opponents, and TOP did not surrender the lead for the rest of the match.
Saturday’s opponents were demanding, but the hard-fought victory is satisfying and allows the team to look to the future with optimism. Strong serving, point-scoring attacks, effective blocking and coverage were the elements that decided Saturday’s victory for our volleyball players.
