Police officers from the Police Station in Pieńsk, investigating the circumstances of a tragic accident that occurred several days ago in Zgorzelec County, identified the perpetrator of the fatal accident.
Let us recall: the incident occurred on October 19 this year, at around 6:00 a.m., in Bielawa Dolna. A driver struck a female cyclist and drove away without providing her with assistance. Unfortunately, the 36-year-old woman died several days after the incident.
An inspection of the accident scene was carried out, during which police officers secured evidence. The officers' findings indicated that a Mercedes Sprinter flatbed truck had been involved in the incident. These findings were subjected to thorough and painstaking verification, which confirmed the suspicions. As a result of police operations, the vehicle was identified, followed by the perpetrator, who turned out to be a 38-year-old resident of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The suspect was charged, among other things, with causing a fatal accident.
Causing a fatal road accident carries a sentence of up to 8 years in prison. Causing a fatal accident and fleeing the scene, however, can result in up to 12 years in prison.
