We reported as early as March this year that the Bolesławiec police were preparing to move. During the March session of the City Council, among others, inspector Henryk Stefanko, the district police commander in Bolesławiec, spoke: “One of the councillors visited us recently and said that our headquarters is not even late-Gierek-era, but early-Gierek-era.”

At the time, the head of the Bolesławiec police also said that the headquarters was “unfortunately situated,” could not be expanded, and lacked parking spaces, both for visitors and for the officers themselves.

“We support the District Police Headquarters in carrying out its duties,” Piotr Roman stressed in March. “This concerns, above all, the possibility of moving the headquarters to the buildings currently located on the grounds of the Regional Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill. This is an opportunity that may not arise again. It is an excellent location with well-renovated buildings, but they need to be adapted to the police’s needs.”

There is no money for this

As it turned out, however, the new headquarters of the Bolesławiec police is to be built elsewhere. The reason? During the October City Council session, the President of Bolesławiec explained that the regional authorities had not found the money needed to “move the hospital’s existing operations out of the three buildings.”

But this does not end the matter. The City of Bolesławiec, together with the provincial police commander and the district police commander, reached a preliminary agreement: the Municipal Commune will donate a plot of land to the officers at the intersection of Cieszkowskiego and Modłowa streets. “Where helicopters used to land,” P. Roman explained.

According to the president, this location has several advantages: its proximity to the motorway, transport accessibility due to its position by the bypass, and the fact that the new headquarters will be not far from the city centre.

“We hope,” the president continued, “that the District Police Headquarters will be built precisely there. If everything goes well, in just a few years the police headquarters will undergo a qualitative transformation. This will bring to an end the saga that began with the prosecutor’s office headquarters and was followed by the Bolesławiec courthouse. All state institutions will have both good locations and good working conditions.”

The president also reaffirmed his intention to provide the police with PLN 100,000 for the preparation of the necessary documentation.
