The decision to establish the Association was prompted by many considerations. It was emphasized that the school, whose history dates back to the first post-war years, has always been closely connected with the city and its residents through its rich traditions. Many of its graduates are people known both nationally and internationally, specialists in various fields, and well-known and respected figures.

The school’s contribution to shaping the image of the city on the map of Lower Silesia and Poland is reflected not only in its high positions in school rankings, but also in its work for the local community and involvement in numerous campaigns and initiatives. There would be a great deal to list, as more than half a century of the school’s existence has produced many achievements. However, the need to establish the Association for the Development of the School arose not only from sentiment for the school, but also from concern for its present and future, since its main objectives include supporting the school’s educational, upbringing and care activities.

In practice, this is to mean both financial assistance, including scholarships for students and the purchase of equipment and teaching aids, as well as active participation in school life, the organization of extracurricular activities and the promotion of creative work. Anyone who has been connected with I LO in any way can contribute to its development by joining the Association or supporting its activities.

“This school deserves this kind of help and support,” emphasizes headmistress Anna Baniecka, who was unanimously elected Honorary President. The Association’s Board includes: Stanisław Małkowski, Beata Domerecka, Joanna Berdzik, Wioletta Krzyżanowska and Edward Florków. The initiators and founders now face registering the Association and, in the longer term, transforming it into a public benefit organization.
