Let us recall: at the beginning of October—in the article Vandals damage the PKP railway station—we reported that the problem had been brought to our reader’s attention. In an email to the editorial office, he wrote:
I would like to ask for an intervention at the PKP railway station in Bolesławiec. There are no seats on the platforms, and a door handle is broken. The tunnels are covered in graffiti.
Our attention was drawn not only to the daubing and the lack of seats on platform one, but also to two rather telling inscriptions. The first, placed at the entrance to platform two, is a kind of appeal to young travelers: “Student, love Zagłębie.”
It has long been known that many Bolesławiec football fans support Zagłębie Lubin, but is this really the right place to demonstrate one’s attachment to a football team?
The second inscription, or rather a couplet, can be found in the underpass:
And where there is graffiti
Paint the walls anew!
We asked the property manager whether this would happen and when. “Thank you for the information concerning Bolesławiec station. An order has been placed for concrete paint and new, missing benches for the platform, which were vandalized. We plan to install the new benches and paint over the scribbles in the underpass this quarter,” says Bohdan Ząbek from the press team of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.
He adds: “Acts of vandalism and the lack of due respect for public property are, unfortunately, quite common. Funds that could be allocated to new projects improving passenger infrastructure must instead be directed toward repairing facilities damaged or vandalized by hooligans. Information about Bolesławiec station will also be passed on to SOK officers, asking them to pay closer attention to the area during ad hoc patrols.
