Officers detained an 83-year-old man who started a fire in a multi-family building, thereby creating a real threat to its residents.
The incident occurred on October 3, 2015. At approximately 3:40 p.m., police officers were notified by firefighters that a fire had broken out in one of the apartments in a multi-family building in the Podgórzyn municipality.
At the scene, officers determined that the 83-year-old man had lit a bonfire in his apartment and in the building’s attic. Fortunately, firefighters extinguished the flames in time. Before the fire service arrived, 15 residents had left the building. Fortunately, no one was injured and no one required medical assistance. The roof and the 83-year-old’s apartment were destroyed by fire.
The 83-year-old was taken into police custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
