The film was made by young creators who took part in the Summer Workshops of the BOK-MCC Film Education Workshop. The young people worked under the supervision of workshop instructor Michał Szwed.

The footage for “Tree of Fire” was shot in August during this year’s Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival. The film presents artist Mateusz Grobelny while he is building a spectacular outdoor kiln in the Market Square. A ceramic sculpture—a four-metre-high tree—was created inside the six-metre-tall structure. The sculpture was inspired by a tree whose trunk and branches were made of clay and metal, while its crown consisted of fire and smoke. The entire structure was built on the basis of a cube. Three of its walls were movable. At the climax of the firing, two of them were opened “like a wardrobe,” while the third, divided horizontally, was opened from top to bottom. For viewers, this was a unique opportunity to see the sculpture during the firing, heated to 1,200 degrees Celsius.

In the film, the artist and ceramicist who built the structure, Mateusz Grobelny, talks about his passion, inspirations and work on the construction. We invite you.
