They visited primary schools, including Primary School No. 2, Primary School No. 6, Primary School in Wojcieszyce, as well as Municipal Kindergarten No. 10 and Kindergarten No. 11 in Jelenia Góra.

Students from grades 0–VI, teachers, headteachers and supervisors of individual groups took part in the activities.

At the beginning of the activities, the role and duties of a police officer were presented, with particular emphasis on the local police officer’s role in a child’s life and the functioning of the family, as well as the duties of the police mascot, Commissioner Lion.

During the theoretical part, the police officers discussed safe behaviour:

  • at school (not using violence, behaving appropriately, including the rules for using a mobile phone, not flaunting wealth, etc.)
  • on the street and in its surroundings (crossing the street in permitted places; when traffic is being directed on the road by a police officer; knowing information, warning, prohibition and mandatory road signs; wearing reflective elements)
  • while travelling by car, bus or train (travelling properly)
  • on a bicycle (the equipment of the bicycle and cyclist), on a skateboard and roller skates
  • at home and in the yard, including the schoolyard (while playing and when in contact with a stranger, a dog or wild animals, etc.).

During the practical part, the children practised proper behaviour on the road and in its surroundings, as well as crossing the carriageway. Attention was also drawn to the rules of proper behaviour for children and adults when in contact with a dog.

During the meetings, the officers paid particular attention to the obligation for pedestrians, after dark and outside built-up areas, to wear reflective elements and vests. These are relatively inexpensive to purchase but can save a life. To emphasise the importance of, and difference in, pedestrians’ visibility after dark, the police officers conducted exercises with the children.
