On 23 September this year, officers from the Traffic Department of the Zgorzelec police headquarters conducted an operation called “Pedestrian Versus Vehicle”. The main aim of the operation is to improve the safety of vulnerable road users, particularly pedestrians.
The officers paid particular attention to the behaviour of vehicle drivers towards pedestrians, as well as to pedestrians travelling along sections of roads without separate pavements, crossing in prohibited places and complying with traffic lights.
Nearly 30 pedestrians and 40 drivers violated traffic regulations. The most common offences committed by pedestrians included crossing the road in a prohibited place and failing to comply with traffic lights, while among drivers, the most common offence was failing to yield to a pedestrian.
