The children collected rubbish into twenty 35-litre bags. The younger children cleaned up the area around the preschool, the “Road Traffic Town” and the Health Centre. The older children, the four- and five-year-olds, tidied up two parks on Polkowicka Street and the areas next to the sports stadium. There, almost every child filled their bag with the paper, plastic bottles, cups and plastic waste they found. In total, the youngsters collected twenty 35-litre bags of rubbish. That is a lot for such small children.
“In campaigns like this, the amount of rubbish collected is not the most important thing. What matters is awakening in children the need to care for the natural environment, as well as their genuine joy and satisfaction at having done something good and useful for our Earth,” emphasizes Elżbieta Jędrzejewska, the preschool’s director.
The aim of the campaign was to awaken the need to care for the immediate environment, develop pro-environmental habits, draw attention to the negative behaviour of people who dump rubbish in unauthorised places, and provide an opportunity to take an active part in environmental protection campaigns. As every year, the Environmental Protection Department of the Rudna Municipal Office supported the activities by providing rubbish bags and rubber gloves.
