Władysław Bigus, Mayor of Rudna Municipality, Halina Zbroińska, acting director of ZGKiM in Rudna, and Rafał Jarosz, head of the Operations and Services Department of ZGKiM in Rudna, inspected the facility after the investment acceptance.

The investment was carried out in two stages starting in April. First, the wastewater treatment plant was renovated and reconstructed. The so-called decanter and mixers in the plant’s reactor chamber and wastewater retention chamber were replaced. New equipment for dewatering and thickening sludge, as well as new reactor controllers, was also installed.

– This is the most important wastewater-management project in our municipality this year. The aim of the investment was to modernize the plant and adapt it to current environmental-protection legislation. However, the savings the municipality will achieve are the most important aspect. Among other things, thanks to automation and modern equipment, electricity bills will fall by half. This will allow the municipality to maintain low fees, compared with neighboring municipalities, for collecting wastewater from residents – says Władysław Bigus.

The first stage cost nearly PLN 702,000. – Subsequently, new aeration and mixing sections were installed in the sludge stabilization chamber, along with appropriately selected blowers, which will allow us to significantly reduce energy consumption. In addition, in the now-automated treatment process, the amount of oxygen supplied is fully controlled, which directly translates into the very high quality of the treated wastewater – emphasizes Rafał Jarosz.

The second stage of the work cost nearly PLN 313,000.

The total value of the entire investment was nearly PLN 1,015,000. Seventy-five percent of the first stage was financed by the European Union’s Rural Development Programme.

There are seven wastewater treatment plants in Rudna municipality. The one in Rudna is the largest and serves approximately one quarter of the municipality’s total population. It treats between 300 m³ and 500 m³ per day. Ultimately, it can receive approximately 1,000 m³ of wastewater.
