More than 60 people from Jelenia Góra, Karpacz, Kowary, Szklarska Poręba, Jeżów Sudecki and other localities filled the parish of Our Lady of Mercy, where the First Meeting of World Youth Day Campus Jelenia Góra Volunteers was held. “We are all hosts of this event, which is why your youth and enthusiasm are needed in preparing these days and sharing your skills and talents,” said Fr Robert Bielawski, responsible for the Jelenia Góra campus.
After becoming familiar with the idea of World Youth Day, the participants took part in a prayer of praise before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, thanking and glorifying God through song and dance and listening to the words of Scripture, which moved more than one young heart to reconcile with Him in the sacrament of penance.
Having filled their spirits with appropriate graces, the volunteers went to different rooms to meet in smaller groups, called diaconates, and learn about the tasks they would undertake in their roles. The meetings were led by those responsible for the diaconates and invited guests, including Fr Michał Marszałek, responsible for the media diaconate in the Diocese of Legnica, and Michał Jeremenko – commander of the fire brigade in Jelenia Góra-Cieplice.
The meeting concluded with a meal, as well as dancing and games together in front of the church. It initiated a very intensive year of work for the volunteers as they prepare for World Youth Day. Each diaconate set its task priorities, which they will begin implementing in their parishes, communities and the campus.
