The premiere of “Serenade,” performed by the Bolesławiec group, took place in June this year. On Monday, 7 September, the play was performed twice on the stage of the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Centre. High school students from the first and second secondary schools, as well as residents of Bolesławiec, were invited.

Sławomir Mrożek’s drama was written in 1976 and presents the flaws of the world around us. As in La Fontaine’s fables, the animal characters here possess human traits and mock our imperfections. The play tells the story of three Hens watched over by a Rooster. One night, a Fox appears beneath the henhouse. He has one goal: to lure a victim and eat it. It was not difficult to recognise, beneath the animal characters, human attitudes and actions involving manipulation, the desire for control and domination.

In this one-act play, the actors fitted their roles perfectly: Lila Wasiel as Blond, Jolanta Koźmin as Bruna, Łucja Mielczarek as Ruda, Marek Pietraszkiewicz as the Rooster and Daniel Popieliński as the Fox. The stage design was prepared by Waldemar Cieślak, the musical arrangement by Paweł Gnyszka, the lighting by Leszek Rzepka, and the prompter was Edyta Sczesna.
