After several months of preparations, three-year-old Tashi from the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Kent (England) finally arrived at Nasze Zoo.
Her predecessor was euthanized last year due to age-related illnesses. The staff at Nasze Zoo are placing great hopes in Tashi: she is expected to help increase the population of the endangered Pallas’s cat, a species originating from the alpine region of Central Asia.
Nasze Zoo – Naturschutz-Tierpark Görlitz-Zgorzelec – has for years actively participated in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), which aims to preserve this ancient species. Until recently, breeding Pallas’s cats in zoos posed problems because the young often died at an early age from toxoplasmosis. Pregnant females are now vaccinated three weeks before giving birth, which produces fairly satisfactory results...
Tashi is still rather shy and often hides, but she is gradually showing interest in the world around her, especially in Bruce, the male who has already taken notice of her from his neighboring enclosure.
