On 16 August this year, the duty officer at the Zgorzelec police station received a report of the doors of the local city hall being on fire. When police arrived at the scene, they found firefighters extinguishing the flames.
Nearby, officers noticed an elderly man sitting on a bench. The 78-year-old homeless man stated that... he was the one who had set fire to the entrance doors and smashed the window. He added that it was revenge for having been deregistered, which officials had done 40 years earlier.
The man caused damage amounting to more than PLN 1,000. He was taken into police custody. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
