The guidebook is divided into several sections. It describes the history of the city, historic landmarks, the history of local ceramics, and tourist attractions located near Bolesławiec.
The historic landmarks are described according to a topographical system, intended to make sightseeing easier for tourists. This section is divided into the following routes: “Old Town,” “Around the Defensive Walls,” and “Historic Landmarks Outside the City Centre.” The individual sites are described in a concise and accessible manner, while maintaining due care in presenting historical facts. The guidebook also contains many interesting facts (marked with a blue background in the publication), which will certainly interest not only tourists but also the residents of Bolesławiec.
The section devoted to ceramics also deserves attention. In addition to the history of local stoneware, it describes Bolesławiec institutions and contemporary activities promoting it, including Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury-Międzynarodowe Centrum Ceramiki, Muzeum Ceramiki, the Ceramic Festival, and the International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium. It also presents the possibility of exploring the city along the Ceramic Route, as well as a list of companies producing stoneware and glass in the region.
An undeniable advantage of this small guidebook is the large number of colourful photographs, both contemporary and archival, as well as maps. They make it easier to locate individual sites and navigate the city and its surroundings. One of the maps is devoted to opportunities for active leisure in the city.
The publication was commissioned by Urząd Miasta Bolesławiec, and the guidebook’s texts were prepared by employees of Muzeum Ceramiki w Bolesławcu, drawing on existing knowledge, including the latest information obtained during research.
The guidebook can be purchased at Muzeum Ceramiki w Bolesławcu (the City History Department, 14 Kutuzowa Street, and the Ceramics Department, 13 Mickiewicza Street), at the Tourist and Cultural Information Point, and at Fabryka Naczyń Kamionkowych „Manufaktura”; soon it will also be available in Bolesławiec bookshops.
