The ceremonial academy marking the 96th anniversary of the establishment of the state police began at 11:00 in the hall of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra. Among those attending the ceremony were the provincial police commander, Police Inspector General Wojciech Ołdyński, Sejm of the Republic of Poland member Zofia Czernow, Deputy Voivode of Lower Silesia Joanna Bronowicka, as well as commune heads, mayors and city and county councillors, representatives of the courts, prosecutor’s office, Czech police, other uniformed services, institutions and companies cooperating with the police, and veterans.
Police officers received promotions: 6 officers in the officer corps, 44 in the aspirant corps, 65 in the non-commissioned officer corps and 13 in the rank-and-file corps.
Moreover, for long service, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded police officers and employees 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Two bronze Distinguished Police Officer badges, awarded by the Minister of the Interior, were also presented.
The provincial police commander presented financial awards to 10 police officers, while the Jelenia Góra city police commander granted 40 such awards. In addition, for exceptional achievements in service, Jelenia Góra Mayor Marcin Zawiła presented financial awards to 5 police officers, including 2 officers who took second place in the final of the Lower Silesian Patrol Pair Tournament “Patrol of the Year” and will represent Lower Silesia in the national final.
During the ceremony, Jelenia Góra educational institutions were also presented with 5 gold and 1 silver “Safe School Space” safety certificates.
The year 2015 also marks the anniversary of the women’s self-defence course “Safe in Your City.” To mark the course’s 10th anniversary, the city police commander presented honorary diplomas to two outstanding participants in this year’s edition. Moreover, the “Safe Karkonosze” Foundation was established by the mayor of Jelenia Góra and the Jelenia Góra county head; it will support efforts to improve safety in the region.
In addition, the Jelenia Góra county head handed over a cheque to fund a service dog for officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters.
The ceremony was enhanced by a short concert by the Lower Silesian Police Orchestra.
