On Saturday, July 25, stork enthusiasts from across the country came to Tomaszów Bolesławiecki for the 3rd Stork Lovers’ Gathering. The meeting has an integrative character. A lecture on the white stork was delivered by prof. Zbigniew Jakubiec. In addition to the lecture, shared entertainment, a barbecue, singing and a bonfire were planned. All proceeds from the event will be allocated to treating sick storks and rescuing nests in Bolesławiec County.
The idea and organizer of the 3rd Stork Lovers’ Gathering is Mieczysław Żuraw, a friend and enthusiast of storks and founder of Klekusiowo. Klekusiowo is a unique haven for storks. It is located, naturally, in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki. Sick birds are treated here. There is also a nest that can be viewed online. Currently, there are five young birds in the nest. “This is the only monitored nest in Poland with as many as five young storks. It is a record,” says Mieczysław Żuraw. “There are currently 10 storks staying at Klekusiowo: five young ones, two adults and three sick ones, which we are treating,” he adds.
