At 2:00 p.m., the results of the 11th edition of the Local Government Ranking were announced, and the winners received distinctions and diplomas. Gmina Zgorzelec came sixth in the category of the best rural gminas.
The winners of this year’s “Rzeczpospolita” Local Government Ranking were: Gdańsk – in the category of cities with county rights; Kołobrzeg – among urban and urban-rural gminas; and Zielonki among rural gminas.
“Rzeczpospolita” prepares the local government ranking based on data submitted by individual cities and gminas, as well as information from the Ministry of Finance. On this basis, a panel of experts (chaired by former Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek) assesses the condition of individual local governments.
This annual ranking made it possible to recognize the local governments that manage their “small homelands” most efficiently and effectively.
The selection of winners takes place in two stages. In the first, the cities and gminas that managed their finances best between 2010 and 2014 and invested the most during that period are selected. In the second stage, issues such as expenditure on contracts with non-governmental organizations, the number of non-governmental organizations that applied for funding from gmina budgets, and the total expenditure incurred by the local government on housing management are assessed, among other factors.
“Gmina Zgorzelec’s high sixth place in the ‘2015 Local Government Ranking’ is the culmination of many years of work on the development of our region and continuous efforts to improve the quality of life of its residents,” say gmina officials.
