A resident of Lwówek County found out that this was not necessarily the case when he stopped on the A4 motorway beside a vehicle with its hood raised. The car’s owner asked for help because he had run out of fuel. Of course, he also took the opportunity to offer an exceptionally attractive deal.
As it later turned out, the deal really was advantageous—just not for the resident of Lwówek County.
The owner of the vehicle who had supposedly run out of fuel took “gold” signet rings off his fingers and offered them for sale. In this way, the victim became the owner of attractive “jewellery” for over PLN 1,100. After reaching Zgorzelec, he had a jeweller examine them and discovered that these supposedly valuable signet rings were made of tombac and were worth no more than a few zlotys.
