On 5 July, at approximately 2:25 a.m., a man called the Jelenia Góra police emergency number and said that he had received an SMS from his brother indicating that his brother wanted to commit suicide. The latter had been reported missing: on 3 July, he had left home by car and cut off contact with his family. He was in poor mental condition.

The duty officer immediately passed the information on to all patrols. No one knew which accommodation facility the 36-year-old might have stayed at, so police officers began checking them.

It turned out that the man had rented a room in one of the guesthouses in the Karkonosze Mountains. When police officers entered the room, they noticed a rope draped over the stairs, with a prepared noose.

The man was drunk. A test showed nearly 1.5 per mille.

The 36-year-old was taken into police custody to sober up.
