Over the year since the national Large Family Card rules came into force, 2,250 people in Legnica have collected the cards. Since the Municipal Council introduced, by resolution, discounts and preferential terms available only to Legnica residents, as many as 1,000 residents have collected the cards. At present, 447 large families can already benefit from them. Interest continues to grow.
Today, further entities not associated with the local government joined the group of municipal units and institutions providing cardholders with services on preferential terms, that is, with discounts. At the Town Hall, Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski signed agreements with six new entities to join the programme. They are:
- Przedszkole Niepubliczne „Miedziany Krasnalek” (1–4 Słowiański Square)
- Przedszkole Niepubliczne „Słoneczko” (13 Plutona Street)
- Caritas Diecezji Legnickiej (22 Okrzei Street and 14–16 Poselska Street)
- Niepubliczna Katolicka Szkoła Podstawowa im. Świętej Rodziny (7 Słubicka Street)
- Proorto Ortodoncja i Stomatologia Estetyczna Jolanta Kardasz-Pawlik (50/1A Złotoryjska Street)

From 1 July this year, Przedszkole Niepubliczne „Miedziany Krasnalek” will grant Large Family Card holders a 25-percent discount on the fee for a child’s stay at the preschool. This rule will apply until 31 August 2016.
During the same period, Przedszkole Niepubliczne „Słoneczko” will grant members of large families a 20-percent discount on the fee for childcare.
Caritas Diecezji Legnickiej will reduce fees for children’s summer camps and holidays for adults by 20 percent. Rehabilitation treatments provided at 14–16 Poselska Street will be 10 percent cheaper for Card holders. These preferential terms apply from 1 July this year until 30 June 2016.
From 1 July this year until 30 June 2016, Niepubliczna Katolicka Szkoła Podstawowa im. Świętej Rodziny will offer a 20-percent discount on tuition fees.
From 1 July this year until 30 June 2016, Proorto Ortodoncja i Stomatologia Estetyczna Jolanta Kardasz-Pawlik will reduce fees for general dental services for members of large Legnica families by 10 percent, and fees for orthodontic appliances by 15 percent.
From 1 July this year until 30 June 2016, Oddział Miejski Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Dzieci w Legnicy will reduce by 10 percent the fees for domestic summer and winter camps for children, as well as for paid events and sightseeing trips organised by TPD. It will also give priority when assigning children to tutoring provided by TPD volunteers.
“Together with the new partners, of whom we now have ten, we are creating a large family to implement our joint undertaking,” said Mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski. “An increasingly broad range of preferential services is becoming available to Legnica residents who hold the nationwide Large Family Card: from fees for preschools and private schools, through veterinary and dental services, to summer camps, recreational activities and rehabilitation. I know there will be even more partners. Together, we are working to improve the quality of life in our city.”
Let us recall. The mayor’s “Legnica Family-Friendly” programme, adopted by the Municipal Council, came into force on 15 May. Every family covered by the programme must hold a nationwide Large Family Card. It can be obtained from the Health and Social Affairs Department of the Legnica City Office. The formalities do not take long. On cards issued to city residents, the name Legnica is encoded in the first seven digits of the number.
The government programme, the Large Family Card, provided certain nationwide benefits. Large families could, for example, receive discounts when purchasing tickets to public museums, national parks and other institutions. There were not many such benefits. Only when combined with the discounts and privileges introduced by the city under the “Legnica Family-Friendly” programme did the Card’s value, and consequently the benefits for families, increase significantly. This has translated into a very clear increase in the number of people applying to receive it.
The system of local discounts and preferential terms for members of large families living in Legnica includes:
- 50-percent discounts on the applicable fee for a child’s stay and care at all public nurseries
- 50-percent discounts on the applicable fee for a child’s stay and care at all public preschools
- a monthly pass for travel on buses operated by Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne, costing PLN 30 for all routes on every day of the month, and a single ticket costing PLN 1
- all Legnica residents holding the Card will also be able to use an integrated ticket, valid simultaneously on Koleje Dolnośląskie trains and buses on all MPK routes, paying only PLN 30 per month for its bus component
- 50-percent discounts on the applicable admission fee for the swimming area, outdoor pools and ice rink operated by the Sports and Recreation Centre
- a 50-percent discount on the ticket price for the “Bąbelek” swimming pool at Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących No. 3 and the “Delfinek” swimming pool at Szkoła Podstawowa No. 7
- Legnickie Centrum Kultury will provide a 30-percent discount on tickets for concerts and other ticketed events, as well as a 20-percent discount on all paid activities conducted by LCK
- Galeria Sztuki will provide free access to all artistic and educational events it organises
- Muzeum Miedzi will provide free daily tours of its exhibitions
- Szkolne Schronisko Młodzieżowe will provide a 20-percent discount on the first three nights and free accommodation for children under 7.
The 50-percent discount on the fee for children’s stay at preschools, available to children whose parents have low incomes, is also being maintained. The discount will continue to be granted upon the parents’ application. The “Legnica Family-Friendly” programme is open-ended, and other interested entities that offer discounts and preferential terms on the goods and services in their portfolios may also join it.
From 1 July this year, application forms for private and non-public partners, as well as a template agreement they should conclude with the Mayor of Legnica, are available on www.legnica.eu (under the Legnica Family-Friendly tab) and in the Public Information Bulletin. Information about the scope and terms of services provided by partners is also available.
