On Sunday, the 3rd Pumpkin Festival was held on the sports field by the Primary School in Ocice. Guests at the pumpkin festival could enjoy many attractions. These included more than 30 pumpkin dishes. The competition for the tastiest pumpkin dish was won by the women from the Rural Housewives’ Circle in Łaziska. The winning specialties were a salad, fritters, cake and jam (all made from pumpkin). Second place was awarded to Stefania Struś and Zuzanna Durda from Ocice for pumpkin pitas. Third place went to Maria Gadzińska from Ocice for goulash and fish with pumpkin.
The competition for the largest (heaviest) pumpkin was won by a specimen weighing 47 kg, belonging to Daniel Długosz from Ocice. Second place went to a 43 kg pumpkin belonging to Maciej Mocny from Brzeźnik. Third place went to a 42 kg pumpkin belonging to Mateusz Szczypta from Brzeźnik. In the competition for the most interesting pumpkin arrangement, first place was won by Mateusz Szczypta from Brzeźnik. The next places were awarded to Cyprian Fiałkowski from Ocice and Justyna Radzińska from the same locality.
During the pumpkin festival, a pumpkin relay race was also held, won by participants in occupational therapy workshops from Bolesławiec. There were also presentations of poems, sayings and proverbs about pumpkins. One of the most interesting was a poem by Paweł Smusz from Bolesławiec. The performances by the women from the Flamenco Dance group attracted considerable interest. The rock band "Bigoz" from Bolesławice, students from the local Primary School under the direction of Mr Bronisław Górecki, and the Singing Ensemble from Ocice also performed on stage. Sunday’s festival ended with a dance party.
The 3rd Pumpkin Festival was organized by the Rural Housewives’ Circle in Ocice, the Singing Ensemble from Ocice, and the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn.
