The best pilots in this discipline will demonstrate their skill until July 4. Around 100 guests from 14 countries around the world have arrived in our city. The official inauguration of the Championships took place at the airport on Saturday. Despite the capricious weather, crowds of Legnica residents and visitors watched it.
“Thank you for awarding Legnica the organization of these championships,” said the city’s mayor, Tadeusz Krzakowski, during the event’s opening. “This is a great distinction for us. I wish everyone a good time and wonderful experiences. By placing our city at your disposal, I believe that you will be its ambassadors all over the world,” he added, addressing the teams taking part in the Championships.
Władysław Skalik, president of the Polish Aero Club, said that paramotoring is a young and developing sport. “We entrusted Legnica with organizing the Championships because it has excellent facilities and experience in preparing world-class events,” President Skalik said. “The city has become deeply involved in organizing the Championships.”
The opening featured a very impressive aerial program. Czech pilots presented a reconstruction of a pilots’ battle using replicas of World War I fighter aircraft. Meanwhile, our outstanding pilots—Maciej Pośpieszyński, world champion in glider aerobatics, and Robert Kowalik, an aerobatic aircraft champion—performed incredible and breathtaking aerial maneuvers.
“A wonderful experience,” said Legnica resident Jerzy Matuszewski after watching the displays. “I have never seen anything like this live. It is wonderful that I was able to see these extraordinary machines up close.”
On Sunday, paramotor pilots were already flying over the airport. Their displays made a huge impression on the spectators.
“It is great that our city organized the world championships for air-sports pilots,” said Krzysztof Wójcicki. “You absolutely have to see what they do. It is very spectacular.”
The first day of the 2nd Slalom Paramotor World Championships Legnica 2015 was devoted to test flights. The weather necessitated this schedule, as the wind had made it difficult to hold the first events since morning. Fortunately, conditions improved after 7 p.m., so following the briefing the pilots were able to test their equipment by flying between the pylons.
The competition schedule provides for two starting blocks each day: a morning block from 6:00 to 10:00 and an evening block from 16:00 to 21:00. The finals are scheduled for July 3 and 4.
