During an inspection of a DAF truck, officers found – to put it mildly! – 4.5 tonnes of tobacco without excise-duty stamps. The tobacco was packed in cardboard boxes tightly wrapped in plastic tape.
The truck driver was detained. It was initially established that if the illegal goods had reached the market, the State Treasury could have lost more than PLN 2 million.
The detainee was placed in police custody. He is a 34-year-old resident of Legnica County. He faces up to 6 years in prison and very high financial penalties.
