A 30-year-old resident of the city came to the Lubin police station. He informed the officers that his car had been stolen, giving a detailed account of the circumstances surrounding the theft.

The officers questioned this version of events. Step by step, they analysed the facts provided by the person making the report. They established that the car had not been stolen and that the report was fictitious.

They determined that the man from Lubin had arranged to sell the car to another man. The two men met and the vehicle was handed over. The seller was supposed to receive the money at a later date (the agreement was made only verbally). When the former owner did not receive payment, he remembered that he had comprehensive car insurance, so… he reported the car stolen in order to obtain compensation from the insurance company.

There will be no compensation, and the man who made the report must now face possible criminal liability. Reporting a crime that was not committed is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.

The case is developing, and the officers do not rule out further arrests.
