The incident took place on June 10, at around 11:00 p.m., in central Legnica. Two aggressors attacked a 62-year-old man walking down the street. The perpetrators grabbed and choked the victim, attempting to snatch a pouch containing his documents, money and mobile phone. The attackers kicked and punched the victim in the head and face.
The victim was helped by an officer from the Prevention Department of the Legnica police, who had returned home after duty and was parking his car near the scene of the assault. Seeing what was happening, the uniformed officer immediately intervened, defending the victim and overpowering and then apprehending one of the attackers.
Thanks to the police officer’s immediate intervention, the assaulted man did not suffer serious injuries. He also did not lose any of his property.
The man detained is a 26-year-old resident of Legnica who had previously been recorded for offenses against property and against life and health.
The suspect was taken straight to police custody. He now faces up to 12 years in prison. Efforts to apprehend the second attacker are ongoing.
