Meetings and events will be held in Bolesławiec, including at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre and at Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia, as well as in Lwówek Śląski.
Several dozen guests arriving in Bolesławiec for the ceremonies will be welcomed tomorrow by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman and Mariola Szczęsna, mayor of Lwówek Śląski Municipality. The first item on the programme will be the presentation of the book “Together We Remember More…” published for the 5th Meeting, describing institutions named after those deported to Siberia and the lives of Siberian exiles.
The Orzeł Cultural Integration Centre will host numerous lectures and a presentation of a map of Poland marking the places from which the guests came. Maria Subik, principal of GS No. 2, will explain how the book came to be written. Kazimierz Korczyński, the initiator of the meetings, will outline the activities of the Association of Siberian Exiles from 1928 to 2014. Dr hab. Joanna Nowosielska-Sobel, deputy director of the Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław, will speak about remembrance of Siberian exiles as an element of the identity of the Lower Silesia region.
Other speakers will include Krzysztof Słobodzian, author of the book “A City within a City”; Maria Niemczuk, chairwoman of the Bolesławiec Circle of the Association of Siberian Exiles in Bolesławiec; Anna Puk from the Ceramics Museum’s History of the City Department; and Polish language teacher Ewa Ołenicz-Bernacka. On Thursday at 4:30 p.m., junior-high students will present the musical “Speak to Me” at the Forum, bringing the first day of the meeting to a close.
On Friday at 11:00 a.m., Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia will host the opening ceremony of the School Interactive Memorial Room. The guests will then lay flowers at the monument to Siberian exiles and travel to Lwówek. There, the mayor, together with students and teachers of the Private Gymnasium named after Siberian Exiles, will welcome them in the Burgher Hall of Lwówek Town Hall, with the participation of the school choir from Primary School No. 3.
