For over a year, our Ukrainian neighbours have been living in the shadow of armed conflict, as a result of which thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes. Among them are children, whose sense of security—essential for proper development—can be taken away particularly easily. It is precisely these 200 young refugees whom we want to give a little joy. They are children who fled areas affected by fighting together with their families, finding shelter in our partner city of Myrgorod. There are already 3,000 refugees there, whom the city is helping to the best of its ability (in the May municipal bulletin, we printed an interview with mayor Sergiej Sołomacha, who spoke about the situation in the city and in Ukraine).

We would like the children who will start school in September to be able to enjoy it as much as possible. School supplies, notebooks, pencil cases, drawing pads, crayons, colourful stickers, pens, and perhaps even school backpacks—we began collecting these items on Friday, 29 May, during a charity concert organised by students of the “Cogito” middle and high school. We will continue the collection until 12 June, hoping that you will join us. We believe that, thanks to your generosity, many children’s faces will be lit up by radiant smiles in September.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those who attended the concert for their support for PAH. We will announce the amount collected in the coming days. We also thank Mr Kamil from Zgorzelec, the children from the Kornel Makuszyński Primary School in Osiek Łużycki, who organised a collection of their own, and the residents of the Zgorzelec Rural Municipality for school supplies and food for children and those in need in Ukraine.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE CITY OFFICE UNTIL 12 JUNE. When handing them in at the customer service point on the ground floor, please refer to the office’s press spokesperson.

For those who would like to donate food items, we remind you that they must be food with a long shelf life. Canned or vacuum-packed products are best.

THANK YOU!
