The performance “In the beginning was the word, or so that the supple tongue could say everything the head thinks” will take place on 17 June at 11:00 at Forum BOK-MCC. Tickets will be available at the cinema box office one hour before the performance. The show is inspired by various aspects of speech therapy. One of the outcomes of the youth theatre group’s work is the creation of small and larger theatrical forms presented on stage. The ideas and inspirations for subsequent performances vary. This time, the concept that served as the basis for creating the new stage event was “speech therapy”.
The participants in the artistic classes worked on creating the performance using the project method. Initially, with the help of brainstorming, the students jointly searched for associations related to the term. In this way, a wide variety of ideas and concepts derived from the word speech therapy emerged: speech, the art of the spoken word, the first cry and first words, diction, lisping, communication, literary language and dialect, shouting and whispering, nasal, rustling and hissing sounds, words of friendship and words of love, women’s talkativeness and men’s reticence. The development of speech: vowels, consonants, words, sentences, incorrect pronunciation and actors’ speech, verbal and non-verbal speech, interpretation of text, and so on. These were the keywords and ideas on which we decided to base the script for the next performance.
Based on all these leads, the young people searched for texts that were inspiring and connected with the subject, drawn from various sources. They included serious literary texts, poems, examples of dialect, poetic songs, as well as cabaret texts and songs.
Under the direction of Katarzyna Syguła-Wieczorek, the students discussed issues related to interpersonal communication and all its aspects. Different perspectives emerged on the need to develop speech skills and improve them. As a result of these creative explorations, the framework of the performance script gradually took shape, sometimes calmly and sometimes turbulently. From time to time, along with new ideas and changes to the cast of successive scenes, it evolved until the final version received the title: “In the beginning was the word... or so that the supple tongue could say everything the head thinks”.
