On Monday, students from Primary School No. 5 and Tęcza Bilingual Primary School came to MDK for two special morning screenings. In the evening, at 18:31, everyone is welcome. From Monday to Wednesday, we are showing the film “Citizenfour” on the big screen, directed by Laura Poitras. It is an Oscar-winning, long-awaited documentary about the greatest political scandal of our times. In 2013, news agencies received a series of coded emails from an anonymous source. Their author, signing himself “Citizenfour,” claimed to have evidence of illegal wiretapping carried out by the US National Security Agency. The author turned out to be Edward Snowden. You are welcome; tickets cost PLN 11.

On Tuesday, in addition to the cinema, another interesting evening event will be a meeting of the Polish-German “Tandem” club, during which neighbors from both sides of the Lusatian Neisse can talk about what matters to them, what concerns them and what makes them laugh. The event begins at 6 p.m..

On Wednesday, the Cross-Border University of the Third Age meets here. More precisely, its participants have arranged to meet in the cinema hall, from where Mariusz Tokarczyk will take them on a journey into the world of fascinating cinema.

Also on Wednesday, on behalf of the Municipal Public Library, we invite you to a meeting with the author Stanisław Srokowski. The author, who comes from the Eastern Borderlands and was born in 1936, is an exceptionally prolific writer and poet. Now living in Wrocław, he is known especially for books about the tragedy of Poles in Volhynia—the genocide committed in the 1940s by Ukrainian nationalists associated with the OUN-UPA. We invite you at 5 p.m..

We also warmly invite you on Friday. That day, under MDK’s green dome, there will be two opera and operetta concerts, the first at 5 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. The concerts are entitled “St. John’s Opera,” and will feature exceptional opera arias, duets and ensembles conveying the unique atmosphere of this special, once-a-year night, when the elements of water and fire meet and the long-awaited fern flower is said to bring happiness in love... Together with the singers, we will visit Moniuszko’s mysterious Haunted Manor, the enchanted water kingdom of the Water Sprite and the Rusalka from Dvořák’s opera, and the mysterious Indian garden of Princess Lakmé. We will hear the romantic barcarole sung in the evenings in Venice, and the doll Olympia will also come to life, creating a unique atmosphere... The evening will be rounded out by love-themed compositions from operas and operettas, as well as Neapolitan repertoire. “St. John’s Opera” is an evening full of music, magic and love. Tickets can be purchased at the music store in Zgorzelec and before the performances; they cost PLN 30.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, we invite you to an amazing and completely free gong-playing performance, presented by Zgorzelec resident Wojciech Pokrzewiński, who specializes in this art. On his behalf, we invite you at 7 p.m.. Admission is free!
