On Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21, we invite you to the Market Square. Saturday will feature the 15th South Slavic Culture Festival, with guests from Croatia, including a brass band and the Juvalius Band. Sunday will be held under the banner of Senior Citizens’ Day, and the evening’s star will be Blue Café.

The Days of Bolesławiec are an event that primarily showcases the people of Bolesławiec. On Friday, the BOK-MCC galleries “W sam raz” and “mała Biała” will host the opening of an exhibition by talented participants in BOK-MCC’s amateur artistic activities, entitled “5 x P – ceramics, drawing, painting, art textiles, glass and stained glass.” The exhibition summarizes the work of the following studios: the Akademia Sztuki art studio led by Stanisława Wojda–Pytlińska; the ceramics and sculpture studio, whose instructor is Edyta Orlińska; Mateusz Grobelny’s personal ceramics and sculpture studio; the glass and stained-glass studio led by Magdalena Konieczna; and the Art Textiles studio led by Teresa Olszewska-Bancewicz. The second exhibition opening, featuring works by students of the University of the Third Age entitled “Metamorphoses,” will take place in the BOK-MCC foyer. The artists work under the guidance of Katarzyna Sas. For a Friday evening of songs from the eastern borderlands performed by the vocal and instrumental ensemble “Winne Grona,” we invite you to the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Centre.

The following day, Saturday, June 20, will see the jubilee 15th edition of the South Slavic Culture Festival. On this day, a re-emigrant village will be created in Bolesławiec’s Market Square, inhabited by rural women’s circles and associations. Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to sample Balkan cuisine: traditional pita with fillings (spicy and savoury), goulash soup and pepper soup. Once again, there will be a culinary competition for the best pita and Balkan cauldron.

The Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends will present the exhibition “Poles on Bosnian Soil.”
In the afternoon, a colourful parade of folk ensembles will take place, officially opening the festival by Piotr Roman, Mayor of Bolesławiec. During the opening, we will dance the Kolo together—a traditional folk dance popular in the Balkans.
On the stage, local folk ensembles and invited guests will present the folklore of the South Slavic countries through dance, music and song. The guests will include two ensembles from Croatia: Puhački Orkestar Brass Band DVD Valpovo, one of the oldest brass bands in the Republic of Croatia, founded in 1890, and the popular vocal and instrumental ensemble Jovalius Bend from Valpovo.

The 15th South Slavic Culture Festival was co-financed by the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation. The final day of the celebrations—Sunday—will be Senior Citizens’ Day. Associations and non-governmental organizations affiliated with the Bolesławiec Council for Senior Citizens at the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s Office will promote themselves at stalls in the Market Square. These include: the Polish Allotment Garden Association, the “Carpe Diem” Teachers’ Club Social Association, the Day Care Centre, the Association of People with Disabilities, the University of the Third Age, and the Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends.

The stage will feature amateur artistic ensembles that regularly dance and sing at BOK-MCC: the Bolesławiec Song and Dance Ensemble, whose instructor is Agnieszka Podłaszczyk; Barbara Lendzian’s vocal studio; the Break-Dance studio’s students, coached by Paweł Klimek; and children and young people from the Canon and Canonki modern dance studio, working under the guidance of Katarzyna Tomczyk–Jakubowska and Krystyna Abramowicz. Vocalists from Agata Pińczuk–Burdzy’s Song Studio and dancers from Halina Bałacka-Kłak’s Contemporary Dance studio will also perform. Bolesławiec’s senior citizens will also present an artistic program on stage. Residents who enjoy physical activity are encouraged to take part in an aerobics marathon.

The official opening of Senior Citizens’ Day will be preceded by a colourful parade through the city streets, from Asnyka and Orka streets to the Market Square. In addition, the Bolesławiec Marian Basilica on Kościelna Street will host a concert by Puhački Orkestar Brass Band DVD Valpovo from Croatia.
The Days of Bolesławiec 2015 will conclude with a concert by Blue Café, an undisputed star of the Polish music scene!

Additionally, during the two days of celebrations, June 20 and 21, Zakłady Ceramiczne Bolesławiec invite visitors to a ceramics fair at the square on 11 Kościuszki Street. The fair will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
