The premiere of the fairy tale will take place on Friday, May 29, at 5:00 p.m. in the BOK-MCC conference hall (second floor) at Piłsudskiego Square in Bolesławiec. The premiere is hosted by Bolesławiec Cultural Center–International Ceramics Center, Agora Bookshop and Istotne.pl. Admission is free.

Especially for the occasion, the stairwell will be arranged so that arriving guests can feel like the box girl and sample an atmosphere of horror. The promotional program also includes:

  • an introduction by Józefina Witas from Agora Bookshop
  • the author’s account by Grażyna Hanaf about the power of human fear
  • an exhibition of photographs by Krzysztof Gwizdała used in the book
  • a photo session for children in the box from the fairy tale (students and photography studio instructor at BOK-MCC Michał Piaskowski will professionally photograph the children attending the event)
  • the fairy tale will be sold at the promotional price of PLN 10

“The Box Girl,” Grażyna Hanaf’s second therapeutic fairy tale, tells the story of a child who was so afraid that she hid in a box. People nicknamed her the box girl. One day, something truly terrible happened. The girl’s fear grew beyond all measure, so that it began to cast a shadow over the entire town—and all the residents began to be afraid. Then they ordered the child to be taken in the box far outside the town and abandoned there…

Opinions about the fairy tale

“I find a profound truth here. It is a true story about the courage to face what life brings, even though it is sometimes difficult. And about how strongly the Current of the River of Life sometimes throws us against rocks and stones so that we dare to go beyond our limitations and leave our safe boxes.”
Magdalena Choma, therapist, coach

“ I like the title. Seemingly ironic and banal, but then I discover that it is not funny at all. I like the length of the story. It is not boring, it keeps you in suspense, and makes questions appear in my head with every subsequent sentence.
I like the ending. It is not obvious—in fact, it is very surprising. And encouraging to me. I feel deeply how many women whom I have recently met, even just through the Kreatorka project, are such Box Girls. At times I feel that way myself, although it cannot be seen from the outside.”
Katarzyna Żbikowska, project manager, author of the book “Mind Maps in Business”

The fairy tale is available in Bolesławiec and can be purchased at Agora Bookshop in the Market Square.
