The television performance “The Death of Cavalry Captain Pilecki” tells the story of the Polish national hero, Cavalry Captain Witold Pilecki. The action takes place in three locations in Warsaw: the courtroom, the basement of the prison on Rakowiecka Street, and Pilecki’s cell. The playwright presented the cavalry captain’s final three years, about which he himself was reportedly said to have remarked: Auschwitz was child’s play. The former Home Army soldier was tortured, unjustly tried, and then murdered. The playwright indirectly portrayed the fate of other persecuted people: Tadeusz Płużański, Maria Szelągowska, and Ryszard Jamontt-Krzywicki.

Independence Cinema is a series organised by the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre together with the Bolesławiec Association “Prawy”. The project’s aim is patriotic and pro-independence education, as well as bringing Poland’s difficult post-war history closer to audiences. The project began on 1 March with a screening of the documentary “INKA 1946 …. I Am the One Who Died”. In March, there was also an open screening of the film “Kwatera Ł”, while in April a documentary about Roman Dmowski was shown.
