The symposium will be held at the turn of August and September, and its participants will work at three Bolesławiec companies: Zakłady Ceramiczne „BOLESŁAWIEC” Sp. z o.o., „Ceramika Artystyczna” Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego and Fabryka Naczyń Kamionkowych „Manufaktura” Sp. J. Smoleński & Zwierz. In addition, the ceramic studios of BOK-MCC and Mateusz Grobelny’s mobile ceramic studio will serve as new workplaces. Grobelny is serving as commissioner of the Bolesławiec symposium for the third time.
The symposium participants were selected from 39 artists who submitted applications from four continents: the Americas, Asia, Europe and Australia. The final selection was made by the symposium commissioner together with a committee appointed for this purpose by BOK-MCC Director Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, consisting of: Krystyna Gay-Kutschenreiter, a long-standing commissioner of the Bolesławiec symposiums; Anna Bober-Tubaj, Director of the Museum of Ceramics; and Katarzyna Zarówny, an exhibition specialist at BOK-MCC. The committee assessed the quality of the ceramic and sculptural works presented by the individual artists in their applications.
– As commissioner, I wanted all facets of ceramics to be represented at the symposium: potters, designers working with moulds and artists with an individual approach to ceramic mass – says Mateusz Grobelny.
The participants of the 51st International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium in Bolesławiec are: Patrycja Barkowska – Poland, Adam Frew – England, Adriana Grochal – Poland, Ute Hartwig – Schulz – Germany, Maria Joanna Juchnowska – Poland/Norway, Barbara Licha – Poland/Australia, Lin Lung – Chieh – Taiwan, Rebecca Maeder – Switzerland, Georgi Pachkoria – Georgia, Michał Podleśny – Poland, Eva Srniková – Slovakia, Katalin Tomay – Hungary, Craig Usher – USA, and Mateusz Grobelny – commissioner.
The works created during the 51st edition of the MPCRZ will be presented next August during the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival. This year’s edition of the largest outdoor event promoting Bolesławiec will feature an exhibition of sculptures received from the artists qualified for the symposium, allowing visitors to learn about their previous work. An exhibition of the Ceramic Symposium in Gmunden, Austria, the oldest symposium in Europe, will also be held at that time.
The international symposium in Bolesławiec is a prestigious event not only on Poland’s cultural map, but also worldwide. It is the only ceramic symposium in Poland to have been held continuously for half a century. It effectively promotes the achievements of outstanding ceramic artists and sculptors from Poland and abroad.
