Traditionally, planting begins after May 15, because, as gardeners say, the period after “Cold Zośka” is the best time. This year, the city bought more than 32,000 flower seedlings representing nearly 40 species. They include, among others, 10,000 sweet alyssum plants, 5,000 marigolds, 3,000 scarlet sage plants, and more than a dozen species of typical rural flowers—including sea thrift, lupine, anemone, and others. All the seedlings cost more than PLN 78,000. They are primarily colorful flowers that can withstand changing weather conditions, such as intense sunlight, temperature drops, and drought. As a result, they will beautify the city until winter.
“This year, we will create arrangements different from those in previous years,” says Henryka Zdziech. “They will be made from typical rural plants, known from gardens. They are very fashionable now, and we are bringing them into the spotlight.”
Our city can boast beautiful flower carpets, which are rare because composing them is quite a difficult art. As in previous years, the carpets will bloom in Słowiański Square and in the French garden of the Municipal Park. Flowers will also be planted in squares and green areas. Towers and planters filled with climbing flowers will beautify the city center.
A preview of flower-filled Legnica can already be seen in the Municipal Park. At the beginning of May, more than 4,000 flowers of this species were planted in the dahlia garden. A unique composition has been created.
