The incident occurred on Tuesday, 12 May, on Karola Miarki Street in Bolesławiec. Neighbours of the 86-year-old woman notified the police, saying they had not seen their neighbour for six months.
Officers went to the scene. The smell coming from the apartment indicated that the worst might have happened there.
Firefighters forced open the door of the apartment, where they found the decomposing body of the 86-year-old woman. Investigators initially ruled out the involvement of third parties, but proceedings in the case are still ongoing.
